The Pro's Know…

With so many AWD and 4WD vehicles on the road today, it is critical that all tires on the vehicle are exactly the same pressure and diameter. Tire size and tire pressure is not only essential for proper operation of transfer cases, but critical.

Mismatched tire sizes and pressures damage components in the transfer case and differential. The computer controlling the transfer case interprets slight differences in tire size and reacts to it. Most vehicles have a maximum of ¼" setting codes!

Differences above this registers as slippage on one of the wheels and the computer compensates by engaging the transfer case, even when it shouldn't be activated. The stagger gauge from Rockland Standard Gear is a giant caliper that can be used to instantly measure the tire circumference precisely with the wheels on the ground. Read more here
